The Mail Merge has 3 components:
The main document is the one that controls the merge. It is the document that contains the information that is fixed and will appear in each letter, as well as the merged codes, where there is a variable text.
A Data source is an information source or database with the data which will differ for every letter. The data source usually includes addresses and names. It could be saved as tables in Word or Excel Spreadsheet or even an Access table.
The merge fields result from the merging. They correspond to the letters which result from the merging. The merge fields are replaced by the actual data in the Data Source file.
